Last night at church, our lesson was on forgiveness.  I, and I’m sure most of you, have struggled with this at one time or another. Our main lesson was in Matthew 18:21-35, The Parable of the Unforgiving Servant

Basically? We are to forgive as GodSee the source image has forgiven us. It’s honestly that simple. But unfortunately, because we are human, it’s hard to execute sometimes. Especially when we have that one person who continually hurts us. Seriously, why should we keep forgiving them? Well the answer is really simple….because God keeps forgiving us.

We mess up time and time again and yet he shows his unfailing love towards us and forgives us.

Not forgiving someone only creates bitterness in our hearts. We end up holding a grudge towards that person. And it says in Ephesians 4:31-32

Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor and evil speaking be put away from you with all malice. And be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving one another even as God in Christ forgave you.

So as we celebrate this Christmas season and remember Christ’s birth, let’s take the time to search our hearts and if we are harboring unforgiveness then we should take a moment and let the bitterness go and forgive that particular person.

But Leigh, you say, you don’t know the hurt they’ve done to me. You don’t know the pain they’ve caused. You’re right, I don’t. But I do know the pain we’ve caused Christ and look at how much he forgives us.

Fibromyalgia 101

Image result for fibromyalgiaImage result for fibromyalgia memes  In December of 2016 I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia. Doctor after doctor kept telling me it was all in my head and that I was just depressed but I kept pressing the matter until finally my new PCP finally believed me and agreed that it was fibromyalgia

Let me tell you. It’s a frustrating illness to say the least. Most people think that because they can’t “see” the illness then I must be faking to get attention. Other people think I’m just being lazy. It’s hurtful and unfair . I want to bring more awareness to this chronic illness. So  here is a list of some of the many problems people with fibromyalgia face:

Fibro Fog

Due to “fibro fog”, people with fibromyalgia tend to forget words, even in the middle of talking. I can’t tell you how many times this has happened to me and it can be quite embarrassing.

I have the worst memory ever. I can forget a conversation I have had with someone only moments later.

This is a given. Pain is the number one symptom of fibromyalgia. I am 34 but sometimes (okay, all the time….) feel like an 85-year-old getting out of bed! Morning stiffness is the worst. There are days it takes me quite a bit of time just to get out of the bed. Then once my feet hit the floor I’m in pain because my feet ache, my knees are killing me and I just want to crawl back into bed. (I could so easily fall back into my depression because of this but I haven’t yet. Praise the Lord!)

Image result for fibromyalgia memesI am not exaggerating when I say I’m tired ALL THE TIME! It doesn’t matter how much sleep I get….I wake up tired. I go to bed tired. I’m always tired.

I guess what I want people to know is that fibromyalgia is REAL! It exists and it hurts to hear “Oh you’re just lazy.” “Oh, you just want attention.” And here’s my favorite: “But you don’t LOOK sick!” To which one day I WILL respond “Yeah and you don’t LOOK stupid but here we are….(Okay I probably will never say that…’s just not in my nature to be mean like that.)

I never asked for this and I don’t understand why I have to suffer through it but by God’s grace I will keep on moving forward day by day.

Altar Ego Update

Hey friends! How is your Wednesday going? Great, I hope!

I’m currently reading Craig Groeschel’s book Altar Ego and am loving it! I’m currently on chapter 11. But I wanted to share with you what I’ve gained so far:

  • All Christians are called to be Christ’s representatives here on earth

  • There is no sin too great for God’s grace. There is no habit too big for his healing. There is no label too strong for his love. God’s power is bigger than your past.

  • The ultimate gift card of salvation carries an infinite balance over the charges of our sins.

  • You can’t earn your way to salvation. You can’t save yourself

  • Faith filled attitudes lead to faith filled actions. Godly beliefs lead to godly behaviors.

I just finished up the chapter on living with gratitude. I was hit with guilt as I read about how ungrateful we can be. I know I’m guilty of this. I have a big tendency to care about “me, me, me” instead of others.  I can be selfish. I know this and I’m being convicted of it daily. I’m working on changing  that now as I type this. Groeschel makes a statement that really got my attention

To overcome our dissatisfied, ungrateful attitude, we must first identify it in specific areas of our lives.

Identifying the problem is the first step, right?

So how do we overcome the seeds of ungratefulness? We turn it to praise! Matt Redman has a song called “Blessed Be Your Name” and there is a line that says “every blessing you pour out I’ll turn back to praise.” Basically, to cultivate an attitude of gratitude we need to turn every good thing in our lives into an opportunity to worship!

(this video includes the chords if you are learning to play the guitar! I think it would be cool to learn!)

This book is great! I encourage you all to get your hands on a copy and read it! Craig Groeschel has a way with words that make things easy to understand. Which is good because I have such a simple mind that I need things broken down for me. 🙂

Happy Wednesday!

Unique Blogger Award

Unique blogger award

I was nominated by Tracie for the Unique Blogger award! I am very honored! I love reading her blog. I encourage you all to read it as well. You can tell she loves God and wants to please Him in all areas of her life. 🙂

I haven’t been blogging very long. I’ve had this site for several years but rarely wrote and then when I finally got serious about God I thought blogging would be a great way to get Christ’s message out there!

Answering the Questions:

1. What is a blessing that you are currently in the midst of experiencing?

I am meeting new people every day through WordPress who love God and strive to live for Him daily. It’s a blessing to get to know all these people. 🙂

2. What is your favorite vacation spot that you have experienced?

Every January my family and I go to the OBX (Outer Banks, NC) for a time of relaxation and fun. We don’t necessarily do a lot of things but rather just spend time together. It’s cold, yes, but it’s still so much fun!

3. If you could only tell your (current or future) grandchildren one message, what would it be?

Live for God every single day. Strive to be like Him all the time. God loves you and has great plans for you.

His Perfect Timing

My Questions for the Nominees:

1.) Growing up, what was your dream job?

2.) What is a hobby of yours? (other than blogging! lol)

3.) How old were you when you accepted Christ as your Savior?

Keep on blogging, you guys! I love reading your posts!

What Scars are For

Y’all, I love Mandisa. Her songs are so honest….so raw…I love them all!

“What Scars Are For”

These scars aren’t pretty
But they’re a part of me
And will not ever fade away
These marks tell a story
Of me down in the valley
And how You reached in with Your grace
And healed me

They remind me of Your faithfulness
And all You brought me through
They teach me that my brokenness
Is something You can use
They show me where I’ve been and
That I’m not there any more
That’s what scars, that’s what scars are for
what scars are for

Erase, rewind
Wish I could every time
The hurt, the pain cuts so deep
But when I’m weak You’re strong
And in Your power I can carry on
And my scars say that You won’t ever leave

They remind me of Your faithfulness
And all You brought me through
They teach me that my brokenness
Is something You can use
They show me where I’ve been and
That I’m not there any more
That’s what scars, that’s what scars are for

I see it on the cross
The nails You took for me
Scars can change the world
Scars can set me free

They remind me of Your faithfulness
And all You brought me through
They teach me that my brokenness
Is something You can use
They show me where I’ve been and
That I’m not there any more
That’s what scars, that’s what scars are for
They show me that’s what scars are for
What scars are for
What scars are for

Overcoming Worry: Turning Fear into Faith

Image result for verses about worry

I don’t know about you but I have a huge tendency to worry about every little thing.

Well last night I came across a booklet from Discovery Series about overcoming worry and turning that worry into faith. It was very helpful and I’d like to share a little bit of what I read. 🙂

Worry Defined:

Worry is a feeling of uneasiness, apprehension or dread usually related to negative thoughts of something that may happen in the future. Such possibilities may be important to think about, but those thoughts are healthy only if we are able or willing to do something positive about them.

Worry defeats us when it replaces wise action or needed rest with fearful emotion—David Egner

How Should We Deal With Worry?

Read. Pray. Trust. Obey

  1. Read the Bible–something to feast on
  2. Pray–someone to feast with
  3. Trust-trusting God and releasing our worries to Him
  4. Obey-Obey God in the things we CAN control

How Can We Put our Worries to Work for Us?

  • Let Worry Turn Our Attention to God
    • He is everywhere
    • He knows everything
    • He is all-powerful
    • He will never leave or forsake us
  • Let Worry Turn our Attention to the Words of Jesus
    • Matthew 6:25-34
      • the opportunities of heaven are more important than the potential losses of life
  • Turn Worry into Prayer
    • Philippians 4:6-7
  • A Practical Approach to  Worry
    • Accept What We Cannot Change
    • Give to God What We Cannot Change

“Being burdened down with care can reflect a lack of trust in Him.”

We just have to remember that God is in control and He knows what is best for our lives. When we find ourselves worrying, turn that worry into a prayer and let God know your concerns.

O Holy Night

Our Christmas Cantata went great this morning! Thank you to all who prayed for us. It went smoothly. I got chills singing O Holy Night.

O holy night the stars are brightly shining
It is the night of our dear Savior’s birth
Long lay the world in sin and error pining
Till He appeared and the soul felt its worth

A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices
For yonder breaks a new glorious morn
Fall on your knees
O hear the angels’ voices
O night divine
O night when Christ was born
O night divine o night
O night divine

Have you ever just stopped and really listened to the words being song in a particular song? Sometimes they take on a whole new meaning even though you’ve sung the song all your life.  That was me this morning singing O Holy Night. I have sung this song since I was a child but this morning I really took the time to listen and focus on the words being sung and oh….the chills I got!

Christ was born so he could die for us. Christ took on human flesh so he could take on all our sins so we didn’t have to die in sin. FALL on your knees! Praise the Lord and worship His holy name! We have so much to be thankful for!

Verse of the day:

Ah Lord God! Behold thou hast made the heaven and the earth by thy great power and stretched out arm and there is nothing too hard for thee.  Jeremiah 32:17

NOTHING, you see! NOTHING is too hard for my God. He created EVERYTHING. Life can be rough at times. This is not something new. Everyone goes through trials and tribulations. But if we just keep our eyes focused on Him, we can rest assure knowing God’s in control of everything!

I am 34 years old and have been single pretty much my entire life. I’ve had boyfriends here and there but they just didn’t work out. There was a time where I was very depressed about being single. I felt like God was ignoring me and that I was never going to find someone special. But after finally surrendering to the Lord and giving him my concerns and my desires, I finally became content with my singleness. If God has someone special for me, I know without a doubt that He’ll send him my way. But if God wants me to be single, I’m okay with that too. Because my main goal now is to focus on God and what He wants me to do. I’m no longer focused on what *I* want to do. God has great plans for me.

He has great plans for you as well if you would just take the time to focus on Him and let Him guide your path. 🙂

The Love of God at Christmas

My church’s Christmas Cantata is tomorrow which means big rehearsal today! But afterwards is our annual Christmas party so that will be lots of fun! Not that rehearsal won’t be….well fun….LOL.  Because I’m sure it will be! We always end up laughing hard at one thing or another.

Pray that we all stay healthy! And that we will get the message across to our audience tomorrow! It’s a really good program with really great songs! My favorite is called “More than Wonderful.” It has such a great message!

For He’s more wonderful than my mind can conceive
He’s more wonderful than my heart can believe
He goes beyond my highest hopes and fondest dreams
He’s everything that my soul ever longed for
Everything He’s promised and so much more
More than amazing, more than marvelous
More than miraculous could ever be
He’s more than wonderful, that’s what Jesus is to me

Verse of the day:

The Lord does not delay his promise as some understand delay, but is patient with you not wanting any to perish but all to come to repentance.  2 Peter 3:9

They say patience is a virtue. Well, it’s a virtue I haven’t learned yet. I can be so impatient at times. I’m trying to hard to work on that but some days are just bad, lol.

God has promised us that He is coming back for us one day. And I don’t know about you but I get impatient waiting for the 2nd coming. I’m so ready for Him to come back so I can spend ETERNITY with Him.

But our patience and God’s patience are two different things. You see, God doesn’t want anyone to perish so he is “patiently waiting for all to come to repentance.”

Renew Your Mind

Image result for romans 12:2

Image result for romans 12:2

It’s so hard to be a Christian in today’s world. We’re so easily enticed by the “wonders” of what the world has to offer. But it says in Romans that we are NOT to conform to this world. We are to be transformed by the renewal of our minds! We are to live in a way that outwardly displays our inward state! We are to change the way we think!

But it’s hard. I know. It’s so easy to go along with what the world says is good and true. It seems easier. But we must realize that God has better plans for us than the world could ever offer. HE’S the good and true one. HE’S the better option!

“Then Jesus declared “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will be never be thirsty.” John 6:35
