I was reading in 1 Timothy 6 this morning and came across this verse. A few verses down it also says:
For the love of money is the root of all evil; which while some coveted after they have erred from the faith and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
This verse has been taken out of context so many times. People will say that money is the root of all evil. That’s not what it says. It says the love of money is the root of all evil. Having money is not a sin. It’s when it becomes our idol that it’s a sin.
We must learn to be content with what we have. Simple as that. We live in a greedy world. So many people will spend spend spend because they think they’ll be happy with all this stuff.
And that’s all it is….it’s stuff. We can’t take it with us when we die!
Matthew 6:19-21 says
Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven where moths and vermin do not destroy and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
The things on earth? They eventually die away. We are to store up our treasures in heaven! That’s where our eternity lies if we are followers of Jesus!
We must be content with what we have.
But godliness with contentment is great gain
1 Timothy 6:6
