Intermittent Fasting: Thoughts?

I have decided to try intermittent fasting to try to lose weight. If you’ve never heard of it, check out this link:

I’m looking at different ways to do the fast, such as the 16/8 method where you have a window of time to eat (8 hours) and then you fast the other 16. So if I was to try this method, I would eat between the hours of noon to 8PM and then fast from 8PM to noon. This method is probably the easiest since you are asleep for a majority of the 16 hour fast.

My weight has reached a number that I am NOT happy with. I haven’t been happy for the longest time.

My medications (at least 4 of them) cause weight gain so losing this weight is not going to be easy but I’m going to give it my all. I didn’t put the weight on overnight and it’s not going to come off overnight, you know?

  1. I’ve heard this works for a lot of people, but I didn’t have a lot of luck when I tried it. I need my caffeine in the morning, but I can’t handle black coffee, so that always tripped me up. However, now that I work mostly from home, it would be easier to change my eating hours to 7-3 instead of 12-8, so I might give it a try again. I hope it works well for you!

  2. Hi, Leigh! I enjoy intermittent fasting. It has helped me maintain a weight I like and is also good for so many things other than weight loss. I used to do about 16/8 every day, but now I mix it up with some non-fasting days, short fasts, and longer fasts. I’ve heard that one key to weight loss is always shocking your body and not letting it get used to something too much. I’m glad you want to give it a try! I really like doing it!

  3. Definitely talk to your doctor as well. I can see why the 16/8 would be appealing. I also have heard positive comments from others. Everyone is different. Stretching also has been really beneficial.

  4. My dad has done this for about a year. He lost about 50 pounds and has basically maintained that weight for the last few months. He does a 4 hour window from 6 to 10 p.m. and eats a bunch of meat and veggies in that time frame to get full. He loves it! But a big part of his success is also cutting way down on sugar, though he will eat some dessert, some chips, or some crackers a couple times a week. It’d be tough for me because I have a terrible sweet tooth, so I just work out a lot and try to only eat one piece of candy instead of 10, haha. You can do it! 🙂
