This is my mom’s absolute favorite hymn. And honestly, it’s one of mine as well as I’ve gotten older and come to appreciate the hymns of my childhood.
“Then he’ll call me some day to my home far awayThe Old Rugged Cross
Where his glory forever I’ll share
And while we’re talking hymns, another favorite of mine is Victory in Jesus!
I heard about His healing
Of His cleansing pow’r revealing
How He made the lame to walk again
And caused the blind to see
And then I cried, “Dear Jesus
Come and heal my broken spirit,”
And somehow Jesus came and brought
To me the victory
O victory in JesusVictory In Jesus
My Savior, forever
He sought me and bought me
With His redeeming blood
He loved me ere I knew Him
And all my love is due Him
He plunged me to victory
Beneath the cleansing flood
Show of hands, please? Growing up, singing these hymns did you EVER sing all 4 verses? With us, it was 1st 2nd and last or 1st, 3rd and last or sometime 1st and last. Rarely, RARELY did we sing all 4 stanzas. LOL….
These songs as well as others were a part of my childhood and I miss them. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely LOVE the songs we sing today (Glorious Day and Thank You Jesus For the Blood Applied…..two of my absolute FAVORITES!!)….but there’s just something about a good ol’ hymn that makes me smile. And sometimes we DO sing a hymn in worship. In fact, one of the songs we’re singing this Sunday is Blessed Assurance. (Another good one!)
