Be a Light In a World Full of Darkness

“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” Matthew 5:14-16

For so the Lord has commanded us, saying, “‘I have made you a light for the Gentiles, that you may bring salvation to the ends of the earth.’” Acts 13:47

But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. 1 Peter 2:9

I shared the following in a previous post….back in March I think. Once again, this time a couple weeks ago this same coworker made me question if I’m truly being a light in the world. He said he “forgot I was religious.”

I had a moment of sadness and guilt the other day at work. I was talking with a co-worker and he said something to me that really caused me to cringe. He said that he had no idea I was religious! He had no idea I was a Christian. I was talking to him about a book I was planning on buying called “Winning the War in Your Mind” by one of my favorite authors, Craig Groeschel. I was explaining how he is a pastor in Oklahoma who started Life Church and was a part of creating the YouVersion Bible App.

Does anyone know that YOU are a follower of Jesus? We are called to be a light in this world. To share the Gospel to a world who desperately needs Christ in their life. Are we being that light? It’s like that song sung as a child in Sunday School: “This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine, this little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine, this little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine, let it shine, let it shine, let it shine…..”

Or are we hiding our light because we’re afraid. We’re afraid of losing our job. We’re afraid of offending someone (and Lord knows that’s a possibility in today’s world.) We’re afraid of not knowing what to say.

Don’t hide your testimony or be ashamed to take your Bible to work. Don’t be afraid to pray over your lunch at school. Let others know that you love the Lord Jesus.

Adrian Rogers, “Bright Lights in a Dark World”

The light of the world we share is Jesus. As they see glimpses of Him and His truth, they are drawn to Him

Barbara Harper,

How can someone “forget” a person is a believer? It shouldn’t be that way. We must do better at spreading the love of Jesus. We must do better at being a witness to a world that desperately needs Christ?

Look I am coming soon! Blessed are those who obey the words of prophecy written in this book! (NLT)

“People get ready!
Jesus is coming!
Soon we’ll be going home.”

–Crystal Lewis (song “People Get Ready…”)

I have so many family and friends who are lost. Who need the Lord in their life. They are blind to the fact that they are in need of Him. And it breaks my heart.

Yes, it breaks my heart but am I doing anything about it? Am I lovingly witnessing to these people often? Is my light shining for them to see?

I should want to see these people come to know the Lord! Where they spend eternity is crucial!

We should be on fire for the Lord, spreading his Gospel!  There are countless souls who have never even heard the Good News. That needs to change.

But how can they call on him to save them unless they believe in him? And how can they believe in him if they have never heard about him? And how can they hear about him unless someone TELLS them?

Romans 10:14 (NLT)

We must TELL them about Christ! We must be witnesses!

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere–in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria and to the ends of the earth!

Acts 1:8 (NLT)

We don’t know the exact hour Jesus will return but He IS coming! And we must be right with the Lord.

You also must be ready all the time, for the Son of Man will come when least expected.

Matthew 24:44

Let’s all be ready and waiting….and witnessing!
