Redeem: to buy back, to save by payment of a ransom, to free from the consequences of sin.
In biblical terms, redemption refers to the deliverance of Christians from sin.
In Colossians 1:13-14 it says, “For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.”
Jesus Christ is our Redeemer. He rescued us from spending eternity in hell.
Let’s face it….we are sinners. We don’t deserve God’s love or grace. We don’t deserve to live eternity in Heaven alongside Christ. Sin has messed this world up so much and yes, we are born sinners.
We need a Redeemer and Christ came down to earth to save us from a life of damnation. He suffered and bled on that cross FOR US! Because He LOVES US that much!
Colossians 1:21-22: “This includes you who were once far away from God. You were his enemies, separated from Him by your evil thoughts and actions. YET now he has reconciled you to Himself through the death of Christ in his physical body. As a result He has brought you into his own presence and you are holy and blameless as you stand before him without a single fault.”
When we come to Christ our debt is cancelled. We are citizens of Heaven!
Colossians 2:14 says “He canceled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross.
What do I know? As a writer I have come across this statement many times over the years. And yet I still don’t think I know.
Write what you know. As if it were that easy, right? You might THINK you know only to sit down, pen in hand, or hands over the keyboard and you draw a blank.
So I took the time to list the things I know. Like, truly know. I will work from there.
I know Jesus and He calls me Friend
13 Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. 14 You are my friends if you do what I command. 15 I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you. John 15:13-15
I also know mental illness and Jesus is my Prince of Peace
6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7
I know forgiveness…and that I’m not worthy
9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness 1 John 1:9
I know kindness and that it goes a long way
Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience Colossians 3:12
I know redemption…and Christ took my place
In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace Ephesians 1:7
I know who my Redeemer is and that He is able!
Iknow that myredeemer lives, and that in the end he will stand on the earth. Job 19:25
