Hey y’all!

So I have decided that I will be going the self-hosted route in the near future. Not exactly sure when but I’m definitely going to be doing it.

I have been researching exhaustively blogging advice on Pinterest. I’ve checked out books on SEO, on blogging, on WordPress. I’m going to do this right, lol. So it’s going to take some time before I switch over.

So I need some help from you all! What sort of advice, tips would you give me as I eventually take this journey?

I’ve been told that Bluehost is excellent for hosting. If y’all can provide some other hosting sites that’d be great!

(Oh and by the way, pray for us….we are awaiting Hurricane Dorian….we aren’t going to get hit directly but we will feel a lot of the effects, winds, rain and the possibility of losing power.)

Update on Landen (yesterday at noon)

Landen has been agitated but is resting well at the moment. His pain is under better control and his respiratory status is slightly improved. He is liking his break from BiPAP.

There are a couple of concerns that popped up overnight that they are monitoring. After all tests, they believe the concerns with his heart are related to his renal function and fluid overload. These issues should resolve as those things get better.

There was an issue with the Hemodialysis machine so he has been back on CRRT (Continual renal replacement therapy). They have gotten a good amount of fluid off and his weight is at a good place.

We know you are but please continue praying. It’s very hard seeing him struggle so much. We are thankful for the strength God is giving Landen to fight and our family to persevere. Thank you for your prayers and support. #landensstory

Landen will be getting moved from Cincinnati to Charlotte in about an hour. He has had a rough three days and continues to be in critical condition. They are getting things stabilized for now. We are glad to get closer to home. Please pray for a safe transport.

What’s My Motivation?

I read an interesting post by Stephen over at FracturedFaithBlog entitled Make Every Blog Count   about our motivation behind blogging. Something he said really got me to thinking. He said:

Writers must have a purpose when they set pen to paper or fingers to keyboard. There must be a reason for the activity, a message that they want to impart. Writing without purpose leads to lazy language as we drift from sentence to sentence, meandering from one paragraph to the next.

In order to promote debate a blogger must be passionate about their subject matter.

Stephen, “FracturedFaithBlog”

Why do we blog? I know I’ve touched on this subject a couple of months ago but Stephen’s post really got me to thinking about it again.

Like Stephen said, we must be passionate about our subject matter. Am I passionate about my blog and its overall purpose? I’d like to think so, yes.

In my previous post on this subject matter, I mentioned that if I truly want to be a successful blogger, I must be committed. I can’t be half hearted. Do I truly want this? Is blogging something I really want to do? I must decide this. More importantly, is blogging something GOD wants me to do? THAT is the question I must answer.

I was listening to the Newsboys just a few minutes ago and their song “Shine” came on. I have always loved this song. The chorus definitely fits in with what I’m trying to write about this morning.

Make ’em wonder whatcha got.
Make ’em wish that they were not
On the outside looking bored.
Let it shine before all men.
Let em see good works and then
Let em glorify the Lord.

The purpose of this blog is to bring others to Jesus. I want others to see that ultimately it’s all about Jesus.

Matthew 5:14-16 says,

“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

So my motivation, my goal, is to see others come to know Jesus. 🙂

Lately, I’ve been struggling with getting the words out. In fact, even as I’m writing this, I’m having to stop ever so often because the words just aren’t flowing like I’d like them to. But in the end I know that God will give me the right words to say. Because like I said, ultimately it’s all about Him.

Just keep writing!

CWG9X4lWwAEMmcdThe inspiration for my writing is slowly but surely returning. I’m still having bouts of writer’s block but I just write through it. 🙂

Just keep writing, Just keep writing…. 🙂

I’ve been going to a local coffee shop and the words have slowly been coming to me.

I’ve been praying that the Lord will give me the right words to write. I want my writing to glorify Him and Him alone.

I just love to write.

So here I am, at my local coffee shop, once again, getting ready to pound out some writing in my lovely Google Docs. I’m writing whatever pops in my head and later I’ll go back and edit and do some copy and pasting, lol.

The Lord brought this verse to my attention the other day:

Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin….

Zechariah 4:10

I may feel discouraged that my writing is not taking off like I wish it would but this verse reminds me that the Lord rejoices in the fact that I’m working on it! I’m slowly beginning the process and that makes Him happy. 🙂
