Be Still

bestill

I struggle with the “being still” part. Mostly because I’m bipolar and ADD so it’s hard to sit down and just listen.  I’m not trying to make excuses. It’s just hard to be still sometimes! Like today, for instance. My mind is currently going a million a miles a minute while I’m writing this. I have so much I want to say but I end up forgetting and writing something completely different.

Today is World Mental Health Day. As a sufferer of bipolar disorder, severe depression and anxiety, today is a special day. It’s a day to bring awareness to all mental health illnesses.  It’s a day for global mental health education, awareness and advocacy against social stigma.

One thing I cannot stand is ignorance. So many people have no knowledge of mental health illnesses and won’t do their research. Instead, people tend to judge and make snide comments regarding a person’s mental state. And that drives me crazy! (no pun intended, lol)

But in all seriousness, people really need to educate themselves on mental health. People with mental health problems are all around us. You may even surround yourself with people who suffer.

If you know of someone who is suffering and not getting help, please try to encourage them to. It can save lives. With the proper medication and therapy, most people can live a full life. I’m on 4 different medications and sometimes we have to adjust the dosages and sometimes even change out a medication but it HELPS! And if it helps then that’s all that matters!

Okay, so I didn’t intend to write about all that, lol.

Back to my topic of “being still.” It’s hard and I struggle with it but when I DO stand still and truly listen for God, I am overcome with a sense of peace that everything will be okay with Christ on my side.

If we would just “be still and KNOW” that “He IS GOD!” things will change for the better! I truly believe that!

I do need to be honest though: Being a bipolar Christian can be exhausting.

Weary and Burdened

Come-to-me-all-you-who-are-weary

God promises us that if we come to Him, He will give us rest. I take great comfort in this verse. Life has a way of sucking everything we have out of us. Eventually we reach a point where we are so tired, so exhausted that it seems like there’s just no point. But if we turn to Christ, if we run to Him, we’ll find that eternal rest we’ve been looking for.

Verse 29 goes on to say “Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls”

Jesus wants us to come to Him, to depend on Him, to lean on Him. He isn’t going to force us to do so, however. But if you want to achieve true peace, true comfort then the only way to find that is through Jesus himself. 🙂

It took me years to realize this and now that I’ve found Him, I mean, truly found Him, I find myself wanting to share it with everyone I know.

He will give you rest. True rest. Just turn to Him. He’s there waiting, with arms wide open. 🙂

I’m Not Ashamed

There is a movie called I’m Not Ashamed that I’ve mentioned before but it’s such a powerful movie that I want to talk about it again.

The movie is based on Rachel Joy Scott, the first victim in the Columbine shootings back in 1999. Her story is so uplifting and moving.

I don’t understand this but for some reason I’ve always been drawn to her story. Her legacy has brought so many people to Christ. I have a couple of books that were written based on her journals she kept. She kept many journals. And guess what? She struggled just like anyone else.

She wasn’t perfect, not even close. She had her share of struggles with all things that most teens struggle with. She just chose to stay close to Christ in order to fight her demons.

Rachel genuinely had a love for others and was so compassionate towards them despite the way they treated her. She showed her love in many aspects of her life and worked hard to be the person God created her to be.

Masey McLain played Rachel in the movie and came out with a devotional based on the movie a few months ago. It’s really good. Is it full of theology and big words? No, it’s simple and to the point and that’s what I enjoyed about it. It was more of a “‘back to the basics” type of devotional because as she said sometimes ” we tend to forget them the most.”

Masey, like Rachel, wants to “love people with a heart of compassion and see and love people as Jesus does.

Colossians 3:12-13 says “Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and belovedcompassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness and patience, bearing with one another, and if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other as the Lord has forgiven you, so you must also forgive.”

I want to live a life like that. A life devoted to Christ and serving His people. I want to be able to show compassion towards those that don’t necessarily show compassion towards me.

I don’t want to be ashamed.

I need Jesus and a little caffeine

Ya’ll, I love John Waller. I just discovered his music after hearing one of his songs in the movie Fireproof. (Great movie, by the way!)

“A whole lotta Jesus and a little caffeine, you are my Awakening!”

All we need is Jesus! (and maybe some caffeine!)

We live in such a fallen world. The church shooting in Antioch, TN yesterday broke my heart.  Who walks into a church and starts shooting?? *sigh* Satan is really trying his hardest, isn’t he? But you know? In the end, he loses. So he might as well just give up.

“It is finished! The battle is over! It is finished! There’ll be no more war! It is finished, the end of the conflict! It is finished and Jesus is LORD!” (This song is currently playing. Gives me chills every time I hear it!)

It is finished! Just remember this. This world is going to continue to get worse. But we have Christ! The battle is already won!

“If only I could see me as You see me….

….and understand the way that I am loved.”

I don’t know if you have heard this song by Mandisa but it’s beautiful.

“You say lovely, I say broken

I say guilty, You say forgiven.

“Oh I feel lonely, YOu say You’re with me.

We both know it would change everything

If only I believed the truth about me.”

Mandisa has some great songs but this one sticks with me. Time and time again I struggle with why God would choose to love someone like me. And I think we all do that. We all tend to think that our sin is too much for Him to forgive. We aren’t worthy of his love. So why would God choose us?

Because that’s who He is. He’s a merciful God who looks past our insecurities, past our doubts. He loves us unconditionally.

That’s a promise. 🙂

Verse of the day: 2 Peter 3:9 “The Lord is not slow in keeping His promise as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish but everyone to come to repentance.”

Come As You Are

This song by Pocketful of Rocks really speaks to me. It’s not about what your wear or where you are….you can come to Jesus AS YOU ARE!

He’s not mad at you,
And He’s not disappointed.
His grace is greater still
Than all of your wrong choices.

He is full of mercy
And He’s ever kind.
Hear His invitation,
His arms are open wide.

You can come as you are with all your broken pieces,
And all your shameful scars.
The pain you hold in your heart, bring it all to Jesus.
You can come as you are.

Louder than the voice
That whispers “you’re unworthy”,
Hear the sound of love
That tells a different story.

Shattering your darkness
And pushing through the lies,
How tenderly He calls you,
His arms are open wide.

You can come as you are with all your broken pieces,
All your shameful scars.
The pain you hold in your heart, bring it all to Jesus.
You can come as you are.

You can come as you are.

You can come as you with all your broken pieces,
All your shameful scars.
The pain you hold in your heart, bring it all to Jesus.
You can come as you are.

You see? Jesus loves you. Every single part about you, He loves.  Come to Him.

Matthew 11:28 says “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest.” Jesus doesn’t want you to wait to come to Him until you think you have it together. No, quite the opposite! Come to Him NOW. He’s waiting for you with arms wide open!

If I can pray for you about anything, please just let me know. Leave a comment and I will pray for you!

Our God Reigns Here

I recently discovered John Waller’s music. It’s amazing! Here is one of my favorites!

Our God Reigns Here

Spirit of doubt you have no place here
I command you to leave in Jesus’ name
Spirit of fear you have no place here
I command you to leave in Jesus’ name
You’re not welcome here so go, just go

Spirit of doubt you have no place here
I command you to leave in Jesus’ name
Envy and jealousy you have no place here
I command you to leave in Jesus’ name
Go back from whence you came

‘Cause our God reigns here, our God reigns here
We claim this ground in Jesus’ name
‘Cause our God reigns

Our God reigns here, our God reigns here
The battle’s won, have no fear
‘Cause God reigns here, He reigns here our God

Anger and rage, guilt and shame
I command you to leave in Jesus’ name
Depression, anxiety, addiction, infirmity
I command you to leave in Jesus’ name
Oh, go back from whence you came

‘Cause our God reigns here, our God reigns here
We claim this ground in Jesus’ name
‘Cause our God reigns

Our God reigns here, our God reigns here
The battle’s won, have no fear
‘Cause God reigns here

There’s no doubt He has overcome the world
And God reigns here
There’s no doubt He has overcome the world

‘Cause our God reigns here, our God reigns here
We claim this ground in Jesus’ name
‘Cause our God reigns

Our God reigns here, our God reigns here
The battle’s won, have no fear
The battle’s won, have no fear
The battle’s won, have no fear
‘Cause God reigns here

There’s no doubt He has overcome the world
And God reigns here
There’s no doubt He has overcome the world
And our God reigns
